his decisions, he went on to take the lives of four people in a massacre that, to this day,

Martin Perel was born on August 11, 1983, and, along with his sister and parents, grew up on the busy streets of Bad Reichenhall, Germany.

On November 1, 1999, when Martin was just 16 years old, his parents left their home to visit the grave of his grandparents in honor of All Saints Day.

Alone, Martin broke into his father's gun cabinet, one stocked with more than 15 different firearms,

opened up his bedroom window, and positioned himself as if he were a trained sniper,

a window that just so happened to face a local hospital.

Shooting at anything that crossed his path, Martin killed neighbors, Ruth and Horst, Zillenbiller,

as well as a 54-year-old patient from the hospital who had just come outside for a cigarette.
