Hello pod, I'm Chris Hewitt and welcome to the latest Empire Podcast special.

The BFI London Film Festival or the LFF, as it's known to its friends, has come and

gone for another year, but it was an absolute cracker, reaffirming its place as one of the

world's leading film festivals with a string of incredible premieres and galas with some

of the biggest names in movies in attendance.

Every year, one of those galas is presented by Empire, a tradition we were delighted to maintain

this year with The Good Nurse, a thought-provoking and a times-chilling drama.

And with Jessica Chastain, stars as Amy Lockeron, The Good Nurse of the title, who works

tirelessly at a hospital in New Jersey, despite suffering from a heart condition that could

kill her and orphan her children at any time.

Into her work and life comes Charles Charlie Cullen, played by Eddie Redmain, who seems

like the guardian angel and best friend she never knew, she needed.

However, and as this is a true story, is a matter of public record, and was documented

in a best-selling book I'm going to reveal the true nature of Charles in a second, so

if you want to remain cold, go into the film if you want to avoid spoilers, the best stop

When patients soon start Miss Jersey Dine at the hospital, it becomes clear that Cullen

is connected to these deaths, and with Lockeron's assistance to police arrested Cullen, and

soon found that he'd been killing patients at multiple hospitals for more than a decade

astonishingly, it's currently believed that Cullen was responsible for the murders of

around 400 people over the years, making him the most prolific serial killer in history.
