I'm going to read us from our teaching text, which comes from

both Acts Chapter 2 and 1st Corinthians 14. So we'll begin with Acts Chapter 2 and 1st Corinthians 14.

So we'll begin with Acts Chapter 2

versus 1 through 4.

When the day of Pentecost came,

they were all together in one place.

Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind

came from heaven and filled the whole house

where they were sitting.

They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the spirit enabled them.

And then jumping ahead to 1st Corinthians

chapter 14, we'll read verses 1 through 5

and then 39 through 40.

Follow the way.

Follow the way of love and eagerly desire the gifts of the spirit, especially prophecy.

For anyone who speaks in the tongue does not speak to people but to God.

Indeed, no one understands them.

They utter mysteries by the spirit.

But the one who prophesies speaks to people

for their strengthening, encouraging, and comfort.
