Summary
For generations, the old Kansas farmhouse had been the center of the family. Holidays packed every room, cousins slept across couches and floors, and somebody was always moving through the house at all hours. So when footsteps sounded upstairs, nobody thought much about it.
The family even joked the house had a ghost.
But after Grandma finally moved out and the farmhouse sat mostly empty for the first time in decades, those same sounds became much harder to explain.
Family members began hearing footsteps crossing the upstairs hallway while everyone else was downstairs. Doors opened and closed when nobody had entered the house. Multiple relatives experienced the same thing, often completely alone. And no matter how many times someone went upstairs to check, the rooms were always empty.
The strangest part was how ordinary it all sounded—as if someone was simply continuing to live in the house long after the family had gone.
