co-host, and I'm not here as always with my great friend Sam Heather Bell. I'm introducing

this episode on my own today, but don't worry worry Sam very much was a participant in the

conversation I know we're both so excited to share with you. We joke that this is

our Pride Month episode which in some ways it is.

But we had on a great historian writer,

also fellow podcaster, Neil J. Young,

who some listeners will remember

we discussed his first book called We Gather Together The Religious Right in the Problem of Interfaith Politics

on one of our trilogy of episodes on how the right overturned Roe versus Wade.

But we had him on for this conversation to talk about a new book of his.

It just came out in April called Coming Out Republican, a history of the gay right.

Neil was a great guest and we really loved having this conversation which I found fascinated and

absorbing just like Neil's book.

But the book really I thought opened up some interesting angles into understanding the right

and generally the terrain we tend to cover on this

podcast in the second half of the 20th century and into the 21st.

Neil's book really, really is one that we love talking about with him and we highly recommend it to you.
