Duality means that two opposite things can be true at once. For instance, our nation can be at peace while at the same time

portions of the world are under siege. Yes it seems incongruent but dichotomies

like this occur. Well today on Insight for Living, Chuck Swindall paints a picture of such contrasting times.

He's inviting us to follow along in Matthew chapter 10, where we read about a conspiracy to silence Jesus.

To many Jesus had become their hope, but to others he had become a threat.

Chuck titled his message, The Gathering Storm.

I want to read for us out of Matthew's Gospel beginning at chapter 10 at verse 34 and then a few

verses from chapter 15 and then over in Luke 19.

Matthew 1034, if you have a copy of the scriptures, please turn,

and if you're sitting near one who doesn't share your Bible with her or him.

Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

For I came to set a man against his father and a daughter against her mother and a daughter in law against her mother and a daughter in law against her mother in law.

And a man's enemies will be the members of his household. He who

loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me and he who loves son or daughter more than me is

not worthy of me. Shocking words, aren't they? From the lips of our Lord, over in Chapter 15, then some

Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem saying,

why do your disciples transgressed the tradition of the elders?

For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.

And he answered and said to them and why do you yourselves transgress

the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition.

For God said,

honor your father and mother,
