But before there was, Gunter, there was, of course, a Walter, and so much more than you likely knew.

So, from green beginnings, in more ways than one, to independent, dominant.

That's right, we've got it to the second episode, yeah.

So in the mid to late 2010s, the professional wrestling industry, beyond WWE, almost resembled

the territory model of older.

And that so many stars made their name during this time underscores, well, how badly the

wider scene must repair itself. Walter was,

in some ways, the modern day, Andre the Giant for a short time there. Now, of course, he was no

near Andre in terms of drawing power, I mean, few people ever have been, to be honest. But the way in which

he booked himself definitely draws parallels.

Walter was a touring final boss. No, another touring Dwayne Johnson. Just never mind. Yes, he was not

quite as invincible. His leverage wasn't anywhere near close to Andres. And he didn't have a vastly

influential controlling promoter in Vince McMahon Sr.

But his brilliant self-marketing and the elite tier ability with which he backed it up earned him such a

lofty comparison. And by 2018, he was one of the absolute best wrestlers in the world, like right

near the top of the pile.

Prior to becoming a name with a capital N in the industry, Walter developed in Germany,

primarily for the top promotion, Westside Extreme Wrestling.
