Happy today that we're joined by Dr. Marty McCarrie, who's the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.

And we're going to talk about a number of things, including the presidential physical fitness test,

which is something that I've been saying since the beginning of the second Trump administration.

I was hoping we were going to see return to school.

So I'm excited about that.

But there's a lot of other things going on as well.

And what we've been seeing is this HHS team, but there's a lot of other things going on as well. And what we've been seeing

is this HHS team, really working as a team to implement a lot of changes in the approach to

medicine and drugs and physical fitness and all of that here in the United States. So without further ado,

Dr. Marty McCarrie, welcome. Great to have you with us today.

Great to be with you, Martha. You know, I always like on the Untold Story podcast, doctor, to kind of

give people a better sense of you at the top of it and who you are. And when I go through your

resume, I mean, you have been writing about and covering so many different areas of medicine

over the course of your career. You're an endowed chair in gastrointestinal surgery.

Obviously, your work as a professor at Johns Hopkins. I'm just curious, how do you see your

approach to your career and where it has gone? Just, you know,

I mean, obviously that's a big topic, but just give us a sense of it. Well, Martha, you know,

my career has meandered in many areas of medicine, public health, surgery, oncology,

islet transplantation. I left medical school feeling a bit disillusioned in my third year,

and I pursued a graduate degree in public health at Harvard. And then eventually I missed the patient

care, and I wanted to come back. And you never prepare or plan for a job like being an FDA
