Founded by the investor Stephen Cohen, SAC grew to be one of the biggest and most powerful firms on Wall Street.

But SAC Capital's dominance wouldn't last.

The hedge fund faced accusations of insider trading and several of its employees were charged with crimes.

And after enduring a series of bruising investigations, SAC Capital settled with the government, pleading guilty to charges of fraud and agreeing to stop taking outside investments.

The investigation into SAC Capital renewed the public's focus on financial crimes and it highlighted how investors on Wall Street often play by a different set of rules than the rest of the American public.

The same issue has come up as members of Congress have come under fire for their own investments in the stock market.
