Summary
In July 2016, 50-year-old Craig Rideout vanished from his home in Penfield, New York. What began as a simple welfare check quickly spiralled into one of the most shocking murders in New York’s recent true-crime history. When Craig’s sister reported him missing, officers entered his home to find something deeply unsettling... and none of it made sense.

| 0:00.0 | A farmer spotted a brown tarp tied up with blue robe. When he went closer, he found a man's |
| 0:07.7 | body but his face had been disfigured by acid. Police came and none of it seemed to make sense |
| 0:14.2 | until they started to check the local CCTV footage. Craig Rideout grew up in a really close-knit family and it really |
| 0:23.3 | seems that family was his priority. He was incredibly close with his sister Robin and when she had |
| 0:29.6 | children of her own, he was the fun uncle. Robin's children loved Uncle Craig and then it wasn't long |
| 0:37.3 | before Craig decided he wanted to start a family |
| 0:39.9 | of his own. He'd seen how much joy his sister was getting from having a family and he knew |
| 0:45.8 | that was what he wanted with his life too. By 1993, Craig had met and married a woman called Laura |
| 0:53.6 | and together they'd had one son, Colin. |
| 0:57.2 | Now not long after the birth of Colin, they had another son, Alexander. |
| 1:01.5 | And then after that, they continued to have five more children. |
| 1:05.9 | So this is now a family of nine altogether, seven children and two parents. And I know my family is a family |
| 1:13.5 | of six, there's four of us kids. That is a lot of people under one roof. And there were a lot of |
| 1:19.4 | joyful, wonderful times within that. But one of the things that the family also saw that |
| 1:26.6 | they were facing was significant financial difficulties, which isn't surprising. |
| 1:33.2 | There are two incomes coming into this household and five children to support and two adults. |
| 1:40.1 | So it makes sense that things would feel a little bit difficult financially. Craig was working as an |
| 1:46.5 | IT specialist and during this time, as his children were growing up, he would pick up more and more |
| 1:52.7 | hours at work. And he was doing this because he really felt like he had to. He didn't really |
| 1:58.0 | have another choice. The family had decided to grow. They decided to have |
| 2:02.6 | seven children. And so Craig would find himself away from home a lot, working more and more |
| 2:08.7 | hours, working in different places. And so at the weekends, he'd come home, he'd hang out with his kids. |
