It can be very good. How many of us would like to go back, say, to the way medicine was practiced 100 years ago or 200 years ago, none of us would.

So technological advancement can be for our good and for the good of society and of

society's basic unit, the family. But as I said, it's a two-edged sword. Welcome back to

issues, et cetera. I'm Todd Wilkin. Joining us to talk about the family

and technological advancement, Claire Morel. She's a married mother of three children, a fellow

and director of the Technology and Human Flourishing Project for the Ethics and Public Policy

Center in Washington, D.C., author of the forthcoming book titled The Tech Exit, A Practical

Guide to Freeing Kids and teens from smartphones,

and one of the authors of the paper titled A Future for the Family, A New Technology Agenda for

the Right. Claire, welcome back. Thank you so much for having me, Todd. Is technological advancement

an unqualified good? No.

And I think that is the kind of provocative statement that we were trying to make with this recently

authored paper is to say that technological advancement, I think, has often been assumed

to be a kind of universally always good thing.

And what we are critiquing is that often technology

and advancements in technology end up undermining the family, which we understand to be the most

important and foundational unit of government and necessary for human flourishing that God puts us in families and it's for our good.
