Summary

On Friday, the European Commission (the executive arm of the European Union, or EU) announced that it is fining the social media company X $140 million for breaching transparency obligations under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The European Commission accused the U.S.-based social media company of deceptive use of its “blue checkmark” validation feature, lack of advertisement transparency, and failure to provide access to public data. X owner Elon Musk responded to the European Commission’s announcement of the fine by calling the post “Bullshit.”

From executive producer Isaac Saul, this is Tangle.

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening and welcome to the Tangle podcast, a place

0:22.9

we get views from across the political spectrum, some independent thinking, and a little bit of

0:26.8

my take.

0:27.6

I'm your host, Isaac Saul, and on today's episode, we're talking about X versus the European Union.

0:34.4

We're going to talk about this fine against the media company formerly known as

0:38.9

twitter and breakdown arguments from the left and the right about it before we do though

0:43.6

a quick heads up that we actually have a correction in yesterday's podcast and newsletter

0:49.7

in our have a nice day section we uh identified Antler, Antler South Dakota.

0:58.5

Instead, it was actually supposed to be Antler, North Dakota.

1:02.2

Somehow, we published this error, even though the person responsible for summarizing the story

1:05.8

swears that they wrote North Dakota and the section's chief fact checker insists they look

1:10.7

the town up on

1:11.4

Google Maps. We do not wish to denigrate or erase the peace guard in state. Trust me. But it is a

1:17.6

frustrating way to end a nearly two-month-long error-free streak. This was our first correction

1:23.9

since October 22nd. It is our 147th correction and our 330-week history. We track those

1:31.2

corrections and place them at the top of the podcast in an effort to maximize transparency with

1:35.6

our listeners. So if this is the first one you're here, and that's why, apologize for the

1:41.0

mistake. Also, the other day on the show, this was not an error that was in the newsletter.

1:47.9

I accidentally said Donald Trump instead of Harry Truman at one point in the podcast. A couple of people

1:52.2

wrote in to point that out. That was my mistake. I apologize for that. Not going to count it as a

1:57.6

correction since it wasn't something that we like wrote down and published.
