0:04.8	I wish it were happiness that we were talking about.
0:08.9	But Jew hatred is something that is now
0:12.2	on the minds of many people, but for someone like me who comes from
0:14.9	Lebanon it's something that I grew up with regrettably as a child in Lebanon.
0:19.7	So the title of my talk is The Eternal Hatred of Jews from Beirut to the West.
0:24.4	And so first I'd like to give you a bit of a quick synopsis of what it was like growing
0:30.4	up Jewish in Lebanon and what you might expect to happen in the West if we don't
0:37.0	get our acts straight.
0:38.3	So this is my childhood in Lebanon.
0:40.4	The left photo is what used to be called the Paris of the Middle East and the
0:47.9	one the other one is exactly how I lived my life the last year of the Lebanese Civil War. As a matter of fact, when the need to play is so important that even in a civil war, people wish to play.
1:02.0	And so my parents would tell me if you're going to go outside
1:05.0	and play don't pass this particular line because then that puts you to the
1:09.1	eyesight of the snipers who would blow your brains.
1:12.6	And so it becomes a cavalier reality.
1:14.8	Death is awaiting you at every corner.
1:17.3	Fortunately, we escaped Lebanon
1:19.4	after the first year of the Civil War,
1:21.6	but I want to give you a bit of a feel of what it was like growing up in
1:25.8	progressive tolerant Lebanon. Lebanon was a lot more modern than many of the other
1:31.6	Middle Eastern countries.
