We begin this hour with what appears to be the actions of a man desperate to outrun a scandal that continues to erupt all around him.

Donald Trump is watching the clock as it counts down to the moment of the most intense bipartisan pressure that his administration has yet faced with what promises

to be a damning vote in the House on his handling of the Epstein files scheduled for next week.

And a bombshell 20,000 pages of new Epstein emails and texts were released this week

by the House Oversight Committee, including hundreds that mentioned Trump by name.

But the president is directing the Justice Department to investigate a handful of prominent

Democrats and major banks on the Epstein issue. An hour before making the announcement on his

social media platform Friday, Trump was already laying the foundation, writing, quote,

Epstein was a Democrat. He's the Democrats' problem,

not the Republicans' problem. Don't waste your time with Trump. I have a country to run. Pam Bondi,

the Attorney General then confirmed that she's appointed Jay Clayton, the acting U.S. attorney

for the Southern District of New York, to investigate those alleged Epstein contacts, not Donald Trump, other people,

which is interesting because just this past summer, Pam Bondi's own Department of Justice

released a detailed memo detailing its exhaustive review, its words, of the Epstein files,

and conducting that there was no client list, no credible evidence that Epstein blackmailed prominent people,

and no evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties.

In other words, no one left to charge. Nothing to see here was the headline in July from Trump's own DOJ.

Now they're thinking there might be some Democrats to investigate, but notice he's still

not releasing the files. In fact, ever since he retook the presidency, Trump and his administration

have made every excuse possible for not releasing the Epstein files, despite having promised transparency
