But the concept that I've taken from Oak Shop is what I'm calling the enterprise state.

So I don't know if you've read very much Oak Shop.

I know of it because Carl was using it to torment me because he would call me a rationalist even though I'm not.

Yeah, because I've got a background in the sciences.

And I feel like it conditioned me not to be receptive because he would, he would deliberately and

sort of humorouslyously not maliciously obviously

yeah like use it to beat me over the head just like you're a scientist it was all in

good fun of course but he's right yeah the funny thing is there are elements of Oakshot that I agree with that some of the things he says I don't I'm sort of lukewarm.

Yeah. I think there's a lot of really important ideas that we can take from

Oak Shop and the one that I'm going to focus on today is his distinction between

Enterprise Association and Civil Association. So he writes about this in his book

on human conduct. he identifies these two modes of association

And I think that when we apply these ideas to the state we can actually understand a lot about what's happening at the moment.
