1st Peter 1st Peter 1 versus 3 to 5.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to His great mercy, has caused us to be born again to a living

hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

To obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved

in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation

ready to be revealed in the last time.

There aren't any commandments in the first 12 verses of this book.

There aren't any directions, there aren't any instructions for what we're supposed to do.

There is only the goal to tell us what we're supposed to do, there is only the goal to tell us what we're supposed to delight in.

What Peter is doing here is not exhorting, he's exulting.

We saw that last week in verse three when he begins this paragraph,

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

He's worshipping as he begins.

He's modeling for us what you do when you feel the value, the infinite value of the God and the salvation of these verses here, especially verses three through five.

And so God is at the center.

We saw last week in verses three and four.

God has great mercy.

God causes to be born again, God gives us a living hope, God raised Jesus

from the dead, God gave an indestructible inheritance, God is keeping that inheritance, and then we stopped at verse four.

And the reason we stopped at verse four is because I wanted to give a whole sermon to verse five.

It deserves a whole sermon.

You might believe the whole great truth of verses 3 and 4 and worry about one crucial thing that wasn't made explicit there.
