So good morning.

And this morning I wanted to talk about a relationship, the relationship between the eight worldly winds and our intentions, the intentions that we kind of live throughout the day with.

They're called the eight worldly winds because they tend to toss us around like strong winds.

And, you know, they can even, you know, kind of batter us around quite a bit.

You know, like it reminds me in New Zealand, you know, the winds sometimes in Wellington gets so bad

that they actually have places to hold on to at the street corners

when the winds come, and it's not that unusual.

But, you know, that's a lot of time.

That's really what's happening in our minds.

And a lot of what keeps our minds from being at peace in our lives.

And, you know, no matter how, you know, how carefully we set up our lives, how hard we work

to always get the winds we want, it doesn't happen, it doesn't work.

So we're always kind of chasing these winds, you know, trying to get the good ones and avoid the bad ones.

So just so very simply, you know, they're four pairs.

And the first two are kind of the personal ones.

They're pleasure and pain, you know, my pleasure and pain, they're gaining and loss, you know, things you gain and lose in your life.

And the other two can be more interrelational.

So praise and blame. I mean we can't praise and blame ourselves, right? Some of us are very familiar with that. But there are also something that happens in the bigger world. And the other one is, the last one is fame and disrepute. Now a lot of us who, oh, I don't want fame,

but there's something very related to fame called status.

And so fame or status, which sometimes can be as simple as being,
