Live from the United States where capitalism is the virus.

This is hell.

And when the virus hit, it sure did a number on capitalism.

As today's guest describes at the beginning of the pandemic,

suddenly closed restaurants meant tons of food that could not be served

to customers it needed to be destroyed despite the fact that capitalism's

promises of supply and demand would suggest would insist that there was plenty of places

that for that food to go and be put to good use feeding people as mutual aid groups

were demanding food for those who desperately needed it in the early stages of the pandemic.

But in reality, that's not how the world works. In reality, if there is no money to be made, then you might as

well destroy whatever supply you have, as human needs and demands mean nothing if it is not backed up with profits.

We've talked with many guests on the show about the problems of constant and continued economic growth.

For years we've had discussions with those who promote de-growth as an alternative

and a potential way to address climate change.

But one thing has always been missing from those conversations and that is

Over production that the market that capitalism depends upon producing too much that it depends upon the production of waste which cannot be good

during a time when we are already seeing the disastrous impact of climate
