As people who are in the world, but not of the world, disciples shouldn't be

surprised by those who don't know Christ to be hostile to our faith. Stay with

us as the Discipleship Series continues.

Would you turn please to John chapter 15, we're going to begin with verse 16 and

read through verse 27. John chapter 15, we've been talking about the disciples and

this morning the disciple and the world is relationship to it. And in this first

part of the 15th chapter, he's talking about the vine, the branch, and beginning

in verse 16, he talks about his commission to those disciples. He says, you have

not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you that you should go and

bring forth fruit and that your fruit should remain. That whatsoever ye shall

ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I commend you

that you love one another. If the world hate you, you know that it hated me

before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love his own. But

because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world,

therefore the world hate if you. Remember the word that I said unto you, the

servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also

persecute you. If they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all

these things will they do unto you for my namesake because they know not him

that sent me. If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin. But

now they have no cloak for their sin. He that hated me hated my Father also.
