Welcome back to Kern Affairs, our much shorter show about the cases of love gone fatally wrong that are in the news right now.

Today, we're covering the story of Hannah Kobayashi, a 30-year-old woman who went missing earlier this month.

Hannah Kobayashi left her home in Maui on Friday, November 8th, excited about what lay ahead.

She was traveling to New York City for a concert and a photography assignment.

She was supposed to make a connecting flight in Los Angeles and was supposed to finally

land in her destination of New York on Saturday, November 9th.

Hannah never made it. Hannah's mother, Brandi Yee, recounted receiving a set of confusing text

messages. Yee said, I reached out to her and I'm like, hey, are you in New York yet? And she's like,

not yet. And it was weird because the flight that she was supposed to go on had already flown.

Initially, the issue seemed to be a routine problem of missing a connecting flight due to a

tight layover.

But over the next couple of days, things would get more and more strange.

Hannah left LAX on November 9th, visiting a bookstore at the Grove Mall.

At the store, she charged her phone and even took the time to join the store's book club.

That evening, she returned to the airport, but was still struggling to get a flight.

She texted family, quote, this is a nightmare.

I don't understand what's going on with these airlines.

I'm trying to get to you.

The next day, November 10th, there were more sightings of Hannah at LAX,

and she even posted on her Instagram account about

passing by LeBron James at an event. Once again, that night, she went back to the airport, but she
