So without further ado, tonight's episode, quick summary is

Astrophysicist Rodney Marks, native of Australia, is considered to be the first murder victim at the South Pole. So basically a rough summary is on May 11, 2000

Rodney Marks became increasingly sick while walking between a remote

observatory and the base.

Now over the next 36 hour period, his condition quickly deteriorated.

He actually returned to the base doctor three times and advice was even sought by

satellite but on May 12th 2000 Rodney Marks died with his condition still undiagnosed. Six months later his body

could not be airlifted out immediately because winter in Antarctica you cannot land a

plane your hydraulic fluid and landing gear will freeze within minutes.

So pretty much any supplies you need are parachuted in. So his body remained there for

about roughly five to six months.

So when the closest place they took his body was Christchurch,

New Zealand, now when his body got there and they did the autopsy of it, come to find out

Rodney Marks was actually poisoned with methanol.

His actual cause of death was acute methanol poisoning

in which it was ingested in the amount of about a wine glass full of methanol. So let's get into a little bit about Rodney Marks.

He was born on March 13th, 1968 in Geelong, Australia.

His education consisted of the University of Melbourne where he studied astronomy and he went on to

get his PhD in physics at the University of New South Wales
