Between December of 2005 and December of 2007, a mysterious offender struck in the region

of Daytona Beach, Florida. The first victim was a 45-year-old woman named Laquita Gunther,

who was known for her no-nonsense attitude and sarcastic sense of humor. She was also a

mother of five who had been arrested numerous times in her life for engaging in sex work

and drug use. She disappeared on December 24th, 2005, Christmas Eve, and was found deceased

two days later on December 26th. She had been shot once in the back of the head with a

40-calibre firearm, and the killer had left behind DNA evidence. A second victim would

follow just weeks later. 34-year-old Julie Green was another woman living in Daytona

Beach that had a history of sex work and drug use. On the evening of January 13th, 2006,

Julie told her friend that she was going to use a nearby pay phone. Her body was found

the next day, January 14th, and had been killed by an identical 40-calibre firearm. Police

also found tire tracks near the body, but it was uncertain if they could be tied to the
