A veteran's personal reflections on 9-11.

I got off the school bus.

I remember my mom asked me, she's like, did you hear what happened?

And she turned on the TV and she showed me.

And you know, at that young of an age, it was incomprehensible.

Like, I think even as an adult, it's hard to really imagine how much life was in those towers. But to understand the impact of it had no clue.

I think all my adolescent brain summarized was someone attacked us and now we're going to go get

them. And that was when I knew I wanted to be a soldier.

And for most of us, that spurred our want, that spurred this passion, this patriotism,

9-11 showed some of the worst things and the best things in America.

Our ability to band together and unite brought America together

like nothing else ever had.

And that produces a camaraderie of trust,

the fact that you know you won't be abandoned.

And that is probably the strongest form

of unity I've ever seen.
