The year is 1993 and all of a sudden, one day, black metal becomes world famous.

What happened?

This particular brand of Norwegian Satanism took an even more sinister term back in 1992,

when a series of arson attacks left six churches vote to the ground.

It's called black metal music and encourages devil worship and the desecration of churches.

The tragic thing happened to my band, One of my best friends also killed himself.

In August of the same year, Bard Eidl, the drummer from Eagard's Van Emphra, killed a gay man in his hometown of Lilahammer.

In 1993, attacks against churches carried on throughout Norway, and on the 10th of August, Cald Grishnak made the national headlines again, when he stabbed to death the leader of mayhem, an opposing black metal band. But I never cried over his death.

Actually, I thought maybe the cops would think that it was me who did it because I had plans to kill him myself.

It's like I'm such a fucking softy, you know.

This church in Vergam, Norway was burnt to the ground.

In all 13 Norwegian churches have suffered a similar fate.

That's got satanic connotations.

I think it attracts people who are into extremes anyway.

These are the sort of people who'd read horror books or be into true crime stuff.
