Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that established

the right to abortion as the law of the land in America.

And although that controversial decision was struck down last year, the debate around abortion

continues to rage across the country.

However, there's more to the story of abortion in America than

just the last 50 years. Although often untold, the history of abortion and efforts to protect

unborn life extends back over 300 years, even before the nation's founding. In my interview today,

I'm talking with Leah Savas about this forgotten history. Leah serves as a journalist

with World News Group and regularly reports on stories related to abortion and the pro-life movement.

Her new book with co-author Marvin Olasky is called The Story of Abortion in America,

a street-level history, 1652 to 2022. A book designed to help Christians today better understand the past so that we're more

prepared to protect unborn life in the future. Let's get started.

Well, Leah, thank you so much for joining me today on the Crossplay podcast. Thanks for having me.

So you're a journalist who's been reporting on abortion in America for a number of years now.

And obviously the biggest news related to this issue today is the Supreme Court's recent decision to overturn Roe v.

Wade, this really famous legal case that kind of set a tone,

set a trajectory for the abortion conversation in America for many years. I just wonder,

what was your initial reaction to that news as it broke? Again, kind of coming from your perspective

as a journalist who's covering this issue.

I definitely when I heard about the leaked draft opinion in May, I was pretty surprised.

I wasn't expecting a full overturn of Roe v. Wade.

I was trying to stay a little tempered and what I was expecting.
