| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Dr. Berg's Healthy Keto and Interminute Fasting Podcast, where Dr. Berg takes you on the journey for the truth about getting healthy and losing healthy weight. |
| 0:12.0 | Hey guys, in this video, we're going to talk about the dangers of baking soda. |
| 0:26.4 | The first thing I want to say is that I do realize that a lot of people get relief when they take baking soda. |
| 0:32.7 | It gives them great help with their acid reflux. |
| 0:35.9 | So I'm not denying that, but I want to say it comes with a package. |
| 0:39.9 | So just hear me out, okay? So the first thing I want to talk about is the function of the stomach. |
| 0:46.4 | The stomach helps you digest proteins, helps you absorb minerals, and kill pathogens, microbes, unfriendly microbes. It's designed to |
| 0:59.9 | produce and make acid. The acidity level of the stomach normally should be between one and |
| 1:08.1 | three. Now, what does that mean? If we look at the pH scale right here, |
| 1:12.6 | we have seven being neutral, okay? And anything that goes down from that is more acid. Anything |
| 1:19.4 | that goes up is more alkaline. Now the thing you need to know is that a pH of six going |
| 1:24.7 | to a pH of five is ten times more acid. Six is 10 times more alkaline |
| 1:31.9 | than 5 and 5 is 10 times more acid than 6. So these are compounded. Okay, it's not just by 1. |
| 1:38.9 | So a pH between 1 and 3 is extremely acid. |
| 1:48.8 | So the stomach normally should be extremely acid. |
| 1:51.9 | Baking soda is 9. |
| 1:52.9 | That's pretty alkaline. |
| 1:57.3 | So the big question is, why would someone get acid reflux in the first place? |
| 2:03.7 | Well, it happens when you lose your stomach acids. When your stomach acid starts going to a four or a five, what happens is the valve up here does not close |
| 2:10.2 | correctly. It opens up. Okay, that's called GERD, and acid will kind of reflux up this |
| 2:16.7 | way. I used to do a test where you would swallow this |
| 2:20.7 | capsule with string, and it would go down to your stomach, would have you lay on your right side |
