Recently that the battleship Texas would be floated again. I don't typically get excited about big public

projects that are waste of taxpayer dollars, but a lot of private money as I understand it went into this project.

And the battleship Texas is just one of those things that captured my imagination

from when I was a kid and it had grown or it had declined over the years and there were people so passionate about this vessel because it's so much more than a

boat and there were people so passionate about it

and sometimes when people are passionate they can get on your nerves

and we kept hearing from people.

You would, they would be interviewed every so often but I would get emails.

At least once a week I'd get an email. We're going to lose the

battleship Texas. It's going to, I don't know, probably not going to sink, but it's

going to be irretrievably decayed and then an effort was begun and a lot of people

had to work very hard and they've just completed it and I don't recall

being this excited about such a project in a very long time.

So I put the word out that I was looking for people who in one way or

another were involved with that and I got a bunch of emails back from different people. I got one guy who's a

docent on there. I thought it'd be interesting to get his perspective. Why do you

do this? Why do you work for free on this project? What's the meaning to you?

And I connected, the guy who was, I think, the executive director of the foundation is a somewhat famous former coach.

In fact, Jerry McGill knew him. I think he was a coach in Brian or in

college station a high school coach but he was involved he was involved I think in

an accident and he's slowly recovering I saw video of him recovering, but it's a pretty massive recovery.
