Wherever you are out there in the world, this is the high wire.

As I sit here today, I was just in the control room watching my team work that's been

up all night trying to make sure that we could be live on our website today so that all

of you could still see the high wire.

I reflected on the story behind the star-spangled banner.

I thought about the moment that Francis Scott Key was out on a British ship trying to

negotiate the release of a prisoner when a war broke out during the war of 1812 in Maryland.

They started bombarding Fort McHenry.

And as the story goes, as the night went on, when we just looked like the British troops

were going to take that fort all night long, that flag stood tall and by morning it was

still the American flag hanging, tattered.

As the story goes, as each man would die holding up that flag, eventually the pole had been

cut down and men started holding it.
