Summary
Did you ever have that great urge to get away on what might be the adventure of a lifetime? When an already established and successful Jack London and his wife Charmian bought property in northern California on which they could build a ranch house- they could have settled back and enjoyed the easy life there for the rest of their years. But she was a lover of adventure like he was, and when he asked her if she would like to sail to Hawaii and then on to the rest of the world she said yes without hesitation. They needed to build a boat first, and when that was done- hire a small support crew. When the word went out in the papers that London was about to set out on a world voyage and needed a cook and cabin boy, hundreds of letters arrived applying for the spots. We offer Chapter 1 (Foreword), which explains how and when the idea came about, and Chapter 3-"Adventure"- describing those letters and applications. We will do the full story, some day soon, hopefully, at 1001 Stories For the Road, where we do our long format stories.
