When the Ukraine scandal broke wide open and an impeachment inquiry became inevitable,

Republicans in Congress had to say something, anything. What they came up with though didn't hold together very long.

President Trump had just been caught making military aid to Ukraine, a vulnerable U.S.

ally contingent on Ukraine providing a political favor to him.

Personally, that's extremely corrupt even if you believe Trump didn't make his

threat in the most explicit possible terms. The President of the United States simply

cannot make foreign governments think the key to American friendship is

giving him personally things of value. But at the time more than a few Republicans invented a new

line. Whatever Trump had said on that phone call to the president of Ukraine, it wasn't

an explicit quid pro quo and unless Democrats could find evidence of one

Trump should skate here's Senator Lindsey Graham if you were looking for a circumstance

where the president of the United States was threatening the Ukraine

with cutting off aid unless they investigate his political opponent you would be

very disappointed that does not exist. Doesn't it though?

Gotta say it only in the age of Trump.

The latest bombshell came from acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney admitting there was indeed a quid pro quo.

And that was the legality of the issue.

But to be clear, you just described is a quid pro quo.

It is, funding will not flow unless the investigation into the Democratic server happen as well.
