I was joking with my husband this morning that I remember fondly a conversation we had about you a few years ago when one of my children was born early.

And my husband and I were joking that like the best reason to have to reschedule a meeting,

he had a meeting scheduled with you, was because you had a baby.

That is a very good excuse. So yes, always the best.

As we approach the 250th anniversary of America's founding, what do you think Americans most

misunderstand about the founding and what are our leaders getting wrong?

You know, I think we always have a tendency to think that paying attention to the founding is a kind of antiquarianism, that it matters because it happened a long time ago, it's interesting because it was at the beginning.

And of course, there's

truth to that. But I think the founding is most valuable to us, not for what it showed us as

happening then, but for what it can show us as true always and in every moment, for what it can

offer us in this challenging time in American life. And, you know, every moment that
