I'm Stuart Mandel, joined, as always, by Bruce Feldman on this very uneventful Tuesday night.

Yeah, we got the first college football playoff rankings.

First rankings of the 12-team era, first rankings of the new super conferences.

And after all that, Bruce, it comes out, and it's basically Oregon 1, Ohio State 2, Georgia 3, and then basically replicating the AP

poll from there on to like 13 or 14. So I don't know, I mean, I don't know about you. There's

nothing in here that I would say, wow, that was a big surprise or that was a big controversy.

It was more like a confirmation that, okay, yeah, they really think very highly of the Big Ten and the SEC like we thought they might.

And BYU is not going to get any benefit of the doubt and so on.

Yeah, I'm not sure if there was anything too surprising.

I'll be honest, maybe the thing that surprised me the most was that Penn State is sitting there at number six. For some reason, and I know what the reason is, Texas is at five. Neither one has any wins over teams in the top 25. They both have one loss. Texas was pretty much got dominated at home by Georgia.

Penn State lost a close game to Ohio State.

I feel like, you know, on the eyeball test, I feel more confident in Texas.

And maybe that is just because of a year ago, you know, Texas has beaten Alabama

multiple times. Now granted, it's not, you know, it's different year, but like I feel like

Texas is getting some of the benefit of the doubt for last year, whereas Penn State felt like

more of the same. And so I have column that uh went up on the athletic uh

wednesday where i talked to several coaches some on the record some off the record and one of the

coaches was like i think the pen state thing is you know he wasn't buying that that they should be there

just not based on their resume or how they have looked

and just thought it was more.

He was like, at least Texas is in the SEC.
