Summary

This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!

Christmas Day is meant for warmth, family, and celebration — but in 1929, it became the backdrop for one of the most chilling family tragedies in American history. After sharing a holiday meal, Charlie Lawson murdered his wife and children in an act so brutal and senseless that the community was left paralyzed with grief and disbelief.

Shotguns, rifles, and blunt-force trauma marked the scene inside the Lawson home. Neighbors and law enforcement were stunned not only by the violence, but by the absence of any clear motive. Why would a husband and father destroy the very family he once appeared to protect? What darkness erupted inside Charlie Lawson that cold Christmas afternoon?

Nearly a century later, the questions remain. Rumors, theories, and whispered explanations have circulated for generations — from personal demons to the possibility of something far more sinister influencing his final decisions.

In this episode of The Grave Talks, we explore the tragic events of Christmas 1929, the lives lost, and the lingering mystery surrounding what compelled Charlie Lawson to unleash such horror. Some tragedies fade with time. This one never has. This is Part Two of our conversation.

I know there's a lot of, you know, moving parts

0:22.7

here, but if we were to summarize this into a sentence, you know, that's essentially the reason

0:27.4

as to why he did this at that time on Christmas Day and took the lives of his family. Would that

0:33.2

be accurate? Well, I still don't know why he chose Christmas Day. Now, he would not let them

0:39.3

celebrate Christmas that Christmas. And he told them he had a, quote, surprise for them.

0:46.5

Did he ever? Yeah. Now, but still, there were friends in the area, little girlfriends of Marie's,

1:04.8

her age, that said a week or two before the murders that Marie went out with them looking for greenery to decorate with and everything, you know, for Christmas.

1:06.5

That's what they did back then.

1:08.5

You think they're just storing by fancy things.

But the day of the murders, when you read my book and see the pictures,

and the report from the reporter that was there next morning,

1:25.8

there was no Christmas, there was no Christmas decorations or anything that looked like it might have been presents or anything there inside the house.

1:29.5

Well, it makes you wonder if maybe the timing of it just happened to be at Christmas Day.

1:36.4

Maybe, you know, he had mentioned had this word get out, there's going to be some kill.

1:41.8

And maybe this just all kind of culminated at that time.

1:45.5

And word got out at that time.

1:47.7

And that happens to be when, you know, when everything occurred.

1:52.3

Now, I know that there's obviously been a lot of story and whether it be rumor,

whether it be urban legend, whatever you want to call it,
