What's fascinating to me is not that Chernobyl exploded, it's how close people were and how unaware they were,

and how that night just unfolds in a way that I had no idea in fold and would have never predicted.

Hi, this is Peter Sago, and I'm Craig Mason. I'm normally the host of Weight Weight Don't Tell Me on NPR,

and I'm here to tell you about a very different podcast that I have the honor of hosting this spring.

HBO and Sky will be broadcasting the extraordinary mini-series Chernobyl based on the real-life events,

some of them far more unbelievable than fiction that happened at the Chernobyl power plant when it exploded 33 years ago.

I'll be in conversation with Craig Mason, he is the creator, executive producer, and sole writer of this mini-series.

The intent here is to talk with Craig about the experience of making it, and how closely it tracks real history, where it differs and why.

Yeah, and of those many wonderful reasons to do this, the one that was most important to me from the jump was a chance to set the record straight about what we do that is very accurate to history,

what we do that is a little bit sideways to it and what we do to compress or change. It knows small part because the show is essentially about the cost of lies,

the danger of narrative, and I didn't want us to, I guess, miss a chance or transparency if we had one.

Right.

We'll also be hearing from the cast crew and creatives on this mini-series.

The Chernobyl podcast will debut May 6th right after the series itself premieres at 9pm Eastern on HBO.
