The subject of my investigation is the public assassination of United Health Care CEO Brian Thompson,

the suspect Luigi Mangione, a young man born into wealth, educated at prestigious private schools,

and formerly working in the tech industry. Here's the story.

On December 4th,

2024, United Healthcare CEO

Brian Thompson was shot dead on a

midtown Manhattan sidewalk

and a high-profile assassination

that stunned Wall Street

and Washington.

Surveillance video shows a masked gunman

strike Thompson as he arrived for a conference, then flee into the city streets.

A five-day manhunt ended with the capture of 27-year-old Luigi Mangione at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where officers found a loaded magazine, a 9-millimeter handgun, ammunition, silencer,

and notebook in his backpack. All items prosecutors say tie him to the killing. Ballistics tests

reportedly matched the weapon to shell casings at the scene. Mangione has pleaded not guilty and is fighting to suppress that evidence, arguing the search

violated his rights.
