| 1:33.0 | Hello everyone, welcome back to our series, Key Battles of World War One. In the last two episodes, we bid off a lot. |
| 1:41.0 | First, we looked at the Battle of Verdun, which seemed to take the entire year of 1916. It was a battle that went on for, it was 57, six days war. That's my thing. |
| 1:53.0 | And then a hundred battles of Gettysburg. Very long. So that was a massive battle to bid off. And then we looked at the naval battle of Jutland, which seems if you just look at the numbers fairly even handed in the outcome, similar losses among the central powers and allied powers. |
| 2:10.0 | But in reality, it was as decisive as the Battle of Trafalgar, because the German high seas fleet was driven home and was only put to see three more times. And these were just minor sweeps. |
| 2:20.0 | We're going to be moving back to the Eastern theater and looking at the Brucci love offensive. And before we get too far into this James, I just have a question for you. |
| 2:31.0 | When we look at Russia and especially when we look at the Austro-Hungarian Empire, they're like a leaky bucket when we look at it in terms of troop losses, especially Austro-Hungary. I can't understand how after every battle they seem to lose 200,000 troops, the 200,000, 300,000 war. And it keeps happening and happening and happening. So which do you think is worse to serve in in World War One? |
| 2:55.0 | That's like saying, would you rather die by decapitation or firing squad? I wouldn't want to serve in either one. The Russians that were very poorly led for the most part, they were not very well supplied. |
| 3:09.0 | And of course, the further they got from their base back in Russia, the bigger that problem became. So, I'll say never had steel helmets. That's kind of a problem. |
| 3:22.0 | But Austro-Hungary is also very poorly led. It's better supplied, plus you've got the Germans usually helping you out. But oh man, you've got the problem with the ethnicities. You might not understand the language of the next guy or not the next guy, but the next unit perhaps. |
| 3:41.0 | So, I don't know. They both lose a lot. I'd say it's a draw, man. |
| 3:47.0 | It's a race to the bottom and they both hit the ground first. |
| 3:51.0 | Pretty much. |
| 3:52.0 | Well, I think if anything World War One is going to show us is it'll wake up a lot of people to the reality that empires simply are not a good means of government. |
