0:05.6	to the benefit of the elites at the expense of the poor and middle class. But how we solve the
0:10.1	problem matters a lot. And to solve it well, we have to understand that poverty is the default
0:15.0	we will return to if we get this wrong. Let me put it this way. Every thriving country and every

0:21.6	is built on a man-made economic system. It could be capitalism, socialism,
0:26.3	mercantilism, barter, slavery, or the kind of crazy hybrids that we have in the US and China
0:31.7	today. Vote for the right system, you get prosperity. Vote for the wrong system. You get desperate
0:36.9	poverty. We're going to answer the question today of why some economic systems yield wealth while others yield misery.
0:42.3	According to esteem political scientist R.J. Rummel, more than 260 million people were killed by their own governments due to communism and despotism. We shut the world
0:56.2	down for COVID and according to the World Health Organization it only killed
0:59.3	about 7 million people. Bad policies killed 37 times more people just in the last
1:06.6	century. We have to get this right but what does that look like? That's what we're
1:10.8	going to answer today and we're going to answer
1:11.3	today and we're going to do it in six easy parts. And trust me, you do not want to skip part five.
1:15.9	That's where we're going to discover exactly how good intentions are already paving the path
1:21.1	to hell. Welcome to part one. Inequality is both the disease and the cure. In 1800, more than 80% of the entire global population lived in absolute poverty.
1:33.8	Today, that number has plummeted to less than 10%,
1:37.1	and about 75% of the reduction in global poverty is due to China alone rejecting communism and embracing capitalism.
1:45.0	Now the great irony is that China's crushing poverty,
1:48.0	mass starvation, and insufferable inequality came as a result of trying to eliminate inequality.
1:56.0	The problem is the only thing more pervasive throughout history than poverty is inequality.
