0:57.0	How to Make Art That Leads to God.
1:00.0	For the purposes of tonight's talk, I want to acknowledge that there are many alternative theories about aesthetics.
1:06.0	Does anyone know, Shofhans, who knows what I mean when I say aesthetics? Okay, not everyone. Okay, so just to be clear where we are, take the pulse. So, aesthetics is the philosophical study of beauty. And there are both modern and contemporary theories that we're just not going to get into tonight because this is a Timistic Institute chapter. So I'm going to present my thoughts at least drawn from the work of St. Thomas Aquinas.
1:33.3	And I don't think it's out of order for me to spend the majority of our time talking about what St.
1:38.3	Thomas Aquinas might say about this, about the beautiful, the sublime, and about art.
1:43.3	At the same time, I should acknowledge just openly that if you want to dive deeper into this topic,
1:49.0	that St. Thomas Aquinas, while he wrote many things in the many volumes,
1:53.0	he never wrote a formal treatise on the subject that I'm about to present.
1:57.0	So I, like many others over the centuries, must infer certain connections based on
2:03.4	St. Thomas Aquinas' stated principles about the nature of beauty in and of itself, as well as
2:09.1	the nature of the human person. So between the beautiful and the sublime, let us begin tonight
