Summary

DB-Mar26,2021: Tommy Thornton of Hedge Fund Telemetry gives Real Vision’s Jack Farley a much-needed update on the “battles” in the market between mega-cap stocks that dominate the S&P 500 and the small-cap stocks in the Russell 2000 that have been ripping for months. Thornton analyzes the internals of the market, using DeMARK indicators to gauge exhaustion, and he looks at breadth, moving averages, and volatility. Thornton shares with Farley his view on bonds and energy stocks as well as Tesla, the ARK Innovation ETF, and specific stocks that are on his radar. Welcome to the Real Vision Daily Briefing. You're watching a special live edition. I have the

0:17.1

privilege of being joined by Tom Thornton of Hedgebun Telemetry. Tom, how are you doing?

0:22.5

I'm doing great. I just another wild week in the market and the close here. I don't know what

0:32.8

happened, but somebody had their elbow on the buy button and just jam things higher, which is

0:37.9

pretty amazing. Yeah, we were on the call about 10 minutes ago just to prepare because we're going

0:42.9

live. And I back then that the Nasak was up about 0.9%. We've closed up about 1.3%. As you say,

0:50.6

absolutely roaring into the end of the weekend. Tom, what did you make of the price action today

0:58.1

as well as over this past week? Well, what I've been seeing over the last two weeks,

1:06.0

especially with the Nasak, has been a series of lower highs happening. And I look at

1:13.3

when markets start to correct or give a little choppy on the downside, I like to use the 60-minute

1:18.1

time frame looking at charts. And you can really see where they get whacked down and then

1:24.8

the dip buyers come in and then they get disappointed and have to sell. And we just carry this pattern.

1:32.5

I think it's just a bit of a rotation. We had small caps and the reopening

1:39.7

stocks just got murdered midweek. And then they just came roaring back. And so I think there's

1:45.8

a lot of liquidity in the market. There's a lot of hope and dip buyers willing to put money to work.

1:52.8

And so my view right now is that the market is starting to see some distribution.

1:58.9

And we're seeing it with a lot of the technical indicators that we use.

2:04.0

When you say distribution, do you mean breadth in that broad amount of stocks are participating

2:08.8

in the rally? Well, we're starting to see the momentum shift a little bit where we're seeing

2:15.7

some, I mean, just very simply of the percentage of stocks within ETFs or markets above the 10-day

2:23.3

moving average, above the 20-day moving average. Those are starting to turn red.

2:28.8

That might be just a function of those moving averages of flattening. But sometimes when they flatten
