This midterm election year, some Californians are

looking beyond our state's borders and contributing time and money in places like Michigan and

Arizona. And not always at the congressional level. They're focusing on state-level races

for lawmakers, governors, and secretaries of state. Why? Because who controls state capitals really

matters when it comes to things like abortion rights, redistricting, and honoring the results of elections.

And the Supreme Court is preparing to hear a case that would give state lawmakers even more power over elections.
