hear it called CVA, which is cerebral vascular accident, and some

places are calling it brain attack because they want it to be taken as

seriously in regards to the timing as heart attack.

So you might hear it called one of those three things.

And so this will be kind of just a basic overview of stroke.

So there's a couple of different types of stroke. You're going to have

your embolic stroke which is caused by a blood clot and then you're going to

have your hemorrhagic strokes.

But most of them are caused by emboli, basically, because of clots.

So one of the things to know about stroke is that it is one of the leading causes of death in the United States.

It is also very leading cause of disability. It's really expensive from a financial impact standpoint for the individual

patient, for the health care system as a whole.

But overall, the death rate due to stroke

has gone down thanks to a lot more prevention and addressing comorbidities, quicker diagnosis and timely

intervention.

So what are the causes of stroke?
