Today, I share a few of the most memorable gifts received and why the audacity of giving is more important than the gift itself.

I've been honored to not only hear some amazing stories from audience members, but on

occasion to receive some amazing stories from audience members, but on occasion to receive some amazing

gifts from them as well. A few of those gifts clearly stick out. There was a woman once who

approached, she had tears in her eyes. She held me firmly and she shared that just three months

earlier her son had passed away she then reached into her purse grabbed

a hat and shared that this was her son's favorite hat he wore it before the diagnosis

and he wore it throughout the entire treatment of the diagnosis she then handed it to me

and she insisted that I keep it.

There was a gentleman who shared that he was from the Cherokee tribe.

He thanked me for reminding him of the value of story,

the resiliency of human beings,

and the power of individuals to impact others.

He then took off his beaded necklace, placed it around me,

and walked away. And then there was this little girl at another event with her father.

They came up afterwards. They had me sign their book. And although the speech that day was a little

difficult with some of her developmental delays,

we discussed as best we could our mutual love of friends, of music, and of nature. I signed her

book. I gave her a hug and then they walked away. A moment later, this little one comes running
