Hi, this is Tom Rosenbauer and welcome to the Orvis flyfishing guide

podcast.

In the past few weeks we've had a lot of requests for a

podcast on setting the hook. How do you set the hook on a fish? I keep I keep

missing my strikes what's going on.

And so I think we'll actually divide this into two podcasts.

We'll do one on kind of the philosophy of setting the hook this week and talk about trout fishing. And then next week we'll go into a little more detail on setting the

hook on saltwater species and some of the bigger fish. Let me just read you a

couple comments from emails we've gotten from

listeners. I would like to request that on one of your future podcast you

discuss the nuances of the hook set as a long-time spin-casting freshwater

fishermen I'm still baffled by the hook set

technique in trout fishing. And then here's another one. Went out to Colorado the

other day and got tons of strikes but had a hard time setting the hook with the

tiny flies I was using.

Well, I have to sympathize with that comment because I went out to Colorado a couple weeks ago

and I had a awful lot of trouble setting the hook and missing fish. And after 40 years of doing this, some of you might

think that I do better than you do when you're out there, but fly fishing is the great equalizer and sometimes a lot of experience

doesn't do you any good. Let me tell you a little a little story about this
