Hey everybody. It's James Lindsay. You are listening to New Discourse's Bullets, where I give a short bullet point like summary of a single topic from woke or relevant to woke that we need to understand so we can defeat it and i want

to talk about the idea of america today so rather than talking specifically about woke um i want to

talk about something that in particular more i mean the woke left maybe brings this up they hate

america for sure but the woke right maybe brings this up. They hate America for sure,

but the woke right really pushed this idea. And that idea is that they love to push that

America is a people and a place rather than an idea in specific. You've probably heard

America is an idea. Well, it's not quite right. It's that it's based on an idea,

very revolutionary idea, very unique idea, a very special idea. And it's true that it is based on an

idea. But what's happening with the woke right is something very insidious. The goal is to shift

the view of America as something based on an idea, which I'm going to talk about

for the rest of this podcast, and shift it onto the idea that it is a specific people who are

the deserving inheritors of the American project or the American experiment, if we want to

phrase it that way. And the goal is actually to narrow the range

in people's minds of who are the deserving inheritors of the American experiment. So you can

set up in kind of a, I don't know, European ethno-conservative way,

this idea that certain people within the American population deserve it.

You might call them heritage Americans.

That's a term of art that the dissident right is fond of.

And other people aren't deserving of it.

So you get to have all of those base ethnic squabbles and other types of nationalist squabbles

that define a people either ethnically or culturally, that there has to be some unifying

cultural binding that makes a people a people that they share
