0:27.2	It is Tuesday, January 21st. It's draft day. The third annual box office draft on the town.
0:35.2	Lucas Shaw and I look at the movie release calendar for the year and try
0:38.7	to pick the biggest winners. This year is particularly challenging, actually, for all the talk
0:43.4	around Hollywood's Survived a 25 mantra and this is the year the movies are finally back. There's
0:49.4	actually a lot of big, expensive risks on the calendar. A lot of sequels, remakes, pre-branded tent pulls,
0:55.4	like always, but not as much A-level IP. It's a lot of A-minus or even B-level properties that
1:01.8	the studios are going to try to dress up into blockbusters. The stakes are pretty high, as usual.
1:07.2	The overall box office got to 8.7 billion domestic last year. That was down only about
1:12.5	3% from 2023 after a terrible first half of the year. Definitely recovered. But the overseas numbers
1:19.3	were worse, and the comparisons to pre-COVID times are still pretty terrible. The volume of
1:25.5	movies is back up this year to pre-COVID times. That's going to make a
1:28.9	big difference on the overall box office. We're finally past the production shutdowns and the
1:34.5	strikes. So hopefully the overall movie picture is back. But one by one, still a lot of questions.
1:40.9	So enough intro. Let's get to the 2025 box office draft.
