Summary

Host Reed Galen is joined by fellow Lincoln Project Co-Founder Rick Wilson and Lincoln Project Senior Advisors Stuart Stevens and Joe Trippi for the conclusion to their conversation of how the political landscape is unfolding less than 2 months out from election day. The panel discusses how it’s in the nation’s best interest for Democrats to value pro-democracy coalition over ideological purity, the need for a media outlet with a pro-democracy bias, and the GOP’s desire for pure power instead of policy positions that benefit the American people. 0:48.8

our talk with Rick, Joe and Stuart. So Joe in 2016 Hillary Clinton lost, well we all know,

0:59.2

but she lost not so much because Donald Trump got more votes although he did but because a lot of

key democratic constituencies i.e. African-American voters in places like Detroit and Philadelphia

1:19.6

30,000 voters in Pennsylvania, 50,000 voters in Georgia that should have voted for him as the

1:26.2

Republican nominee left his name blank left the presidential line blank. And so how do we make

1:32.0

sure that pro-democracy voters don't allow for an under vote in a lot of these key races whether

1:38.2

not that's Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania because that's what scares me is not

1:44.1

that there aren't enough pro-democracy voters is that they either don't believe it or don't care

1:50.4

enough to show up. Well the first thing I went out is that 2016 and 2020 were presidential years

1:58.0

and Donald Trump was on the ballot and he's not on the ballot in 2022 and by the way neither is Joe Biden.

2:04.8

And so if you start looking at 2018 where Democrats did really well in response to Trump and

2:14.3

Trump voters were more likely to stay home and did but what we've seen now is the last five special

2:21.3

congressional elections that have occurred this year Democrats have way over-performed outperform

2:27.3

what Joe Biden got and respected the Biden Trump vote and you know we talked about Ryan and
