Welcome to the Peter King Podcast with a special podcast this week on the release of the

2019 NFL schedule. I come to you from a 180 square foot unkempt office on the fifth floor of the

NFL headquarters in Manhattan. Quite frankly, it could use a cleaning and some

deodorizing. For most of the last three months, the five-member NFL

scheduling team worked 10-hour days in secrecy and without janitorial service in this place.

It's a third the size of a Manhattan Studio apartment.

That's where they came up with the 2019 NFL schedule.

I'll tell you how they did it from start to finish in this podcast. But first, we're going to take you to

Seattle to tell you exactly how and why the Russell Wilson contract got done.

And again, I think that everybody has looked at this contract

as simply a money deal, and I don't think it is as simple as that. I think it ended up

being more of a money deal than Wilson and his agent Mark Rogers wanted it to be.

But there's three things I think you need to know about this

contract. Number one, Mark Rogers is a baseball agent. He has one football client. It's Russell

Wilson and he's had that client since

Russell Wilson was a draft pick of the Colorado Rockies and since he was in the I think the Carolina League he was playing in Asheville, North Carolina

And so Mark Rogers has all baseball clients he's got Andrew Miller the relief pitcher several others

But so he's been a baseball agent for a long time. That's how we got to know Russell Wilson. He's got one football client, period. That's it. It's Wilson. So he's sort of,

you know, been fortunate to have a client like Wilson for a lot of reasons. They're very good friends. But you know who could have ever thought that Russell Wilson, the 75th pick in the 2011 draft would have become the highest paid player in

NFL history in the NFL's 100th season but that's what his new contract is going

to do.
