Summary

F1 the final day of F1 pre-season testing complete, Edd Straw is joined by Jon Noble and Scott Mitchell-Malm to assess every team's performance and rank where each sits in the pecking order heading into the first race of the season in Australia. Amongst the topics discussed are whether Williams or Alpine will head the midfield, whether Red Bull are in trouble after a more difficult than expected test, and whether McLaren are really as far ahead of the rest as some in the paddock would have you think. Mark Hughes also returns for a deep dive analysis of the top four teams' times. But what's the real pecking order heading to Australia and our Red Bull really in trouble?

1:00.0

I'm Ed Sture and joining me to dissect the three days of running as Scott Mitchell Malm and John Noble.

1:06.0

Well John, we'll come to you first. No sooner were we starting looking forward to this long three days.

1:11.6

It's flown past, all done. It is incredible, actually. The tests always find really interesting

1:17.7

because it's the same length of time as a Grand Prix weekend, three days. But the difference

1:22.9

of a test is it's much more Groundhog, Groundhog Day than a Grand Prix. Grand Prix is get momentum. You're picking

1:29.2

performance answers and piecing it together, but you have the, you know, huge climax of a race

1:35.5

on the Sunday, whereas tests rinse repeat, rinse repeat for three days. But it has been interesting,

1:40.9

you know, day one, I don't know, same for you, but quite confusing, because no one knows where they stack up against anyone else. There's no narratives. There weren't any big shocks either. Nobody looked sensationally quick. No one looked sensationly rubbish. So the first day was a bit difficult to kind of get your claws into stuff. But as we've rolled on, it's got better. We've

2:01.5

got paces coming out. We've got stories emerging. We've got narratives coming up. And I think we've

2:06.0

got quite an exciting start to the season. Yeah, the whole thing with testing is it's just this

2:10.5

creeping, steady build of knowledge, if you like. You get to the end point where you don't have
