The Oh, Welcome back everyone to 1001 classic short stories and tales. This is your host, John Hagadorn. It's been a while since we've done a Brett Hart story, so I wanted to give you a little reminder about who Brett Hart was, and then

share one of his most loved short stories with you.

Tennessee's partner.

Francis Brett Hart was an American author and poet who worked in a number of different

professional capacities including minor, teacher, messenger, and journalist before turning to full-time writing in 1871.

He moved to California in 1853 and spent part of his life in a mining camp near Humboldt Bay, the current town of Arcata,

a setting which provided material for some of his works,

while the luck of roaring camp, which we've done here,

made Bret Hart famous nationwide,

and helped him to land a writing contract with a publisher in 1871.

In 1878 he was appointed as United States Consul in Crefell, Germany, and then to Glasgow in 1880.

He spent 30 years in Europe moving to London in 1885.

When he was in Europe, he recalled a lot of what he had experienced in mining camps in California and his three best short stories

the outcasts of poker flat the luck of roaring camp both of which we've done here and

Tennessee's partner are known as his three most influential works.
