Summary

Just how big a project is designing a 2026 Formula 1 car given the brand new chassis and power unit regulations? Aston Martin CEO and team principal Andy Cowell explains that to host Edd Straw in an interview in the latest F1 Tech Show.

We also hear former F1 technical director Gary Anderson’s insight on such projects, how they have changed as F1 has evolved and the challenge of knowing what you are aiming for in terms of performance.

Red Bull’s revival and the ‘tape on pitwall’ controversy from Austin are also discussed, with Gary offering a technological solution.

Your questions on Cowell’s engine expertise, rain in the cockpit, engine degradation and fuel suppliers are also fielded.

Welcome to the Race F1 Tech Show presented by eBay. I'm Ed Straw but far, far, far more important

0:35.7

is Gary Anderson here with me to offer his

wisdom drawn from half a century of involvement in Formula One. How's life, Gary?

0:43.8

Life's good, yes. I enjoyed Austin. I enjoyed the sprint weekend in Austin, actually. It was

And then he held that there for quite a long time.

1:31.0

I mean, he almost did it, but not quite.

1:34.6

So I have to give Ferrari and the credit for that, part in the back,

1:38.5

because that's, you know, we always abuse them whenever they get the strategy wrong.

1:41.1

But I think they probably got the strategy right there.

1:44.8

Obviously, others, you know, they waited and saw what he could do before they decided on

1:50.4

the, I'm putting on the soft tire for the second stint.

So it was Ferrari leading the bunch, as far as that was concerned for me, for leading the strategy
